How to record the foaling and follow the foal
The birth closes the pregnancy, registers the foal in the herd and opens the neonatal follow-up.
Before you start
- Recording is for veterinarians and administrators, by default.
- In the app, it works offline.
- The mare must have a pregnancy in progress. See how to follow the pregnancy.
Record the birth
- Open the mare's pregnancy and tap Record Birth. On the web, use Record birth on the Pregnancy page.
- Under Foaling Information, check the date and time.
- In Foaling type, choose Natural or Induced. Enter the Foaling duration (minutes).
- In Foal sex, choose Male or Female.
- In Status, choose No complications, With complications or C-section.
- Keep Foal was born alive on. If you turn it off, no animal is registered (stillborn).
- Write the Notes and the Responsible person.
- Under Foal Details, fill in Name, Coat color, Breed (empty = the dam's) and the Sire (stallion).
- Tap Save Record.

The foal joins the herd, linked to the dam and the sire. Foaling before 320 days is marked as premature.
Follow the foal
The Neonatal Follow-up screen has the Overview, Health, Growth and Weighings tabs. The Timeline shows each record and the foal's Status.
- Tap Start neonatal care to create the tasks for the first hours: colostrum, placenta, assessment, immunity and weighing.
- Tap Colostrum, Immunity and Placenta to record:
- Colostrum: intake in the first hours, amount and time until the first suckle. Tap Save Colostrum.
- Placenta: expulsion, expulsion time and weight. Tap Save Placenta.
- Immunity: type of test (IgG or total protein) and the result. Tap Save Immunity.
- Tap Record Assessment for the neonatal exam: vital signs, reflexes, hydration, meconium and general assessment. Tap Save Assessment.
- Record the weight in Weighing. With two weighings on different days, the average daily gain appears.

The foal's status (Healthy, Attention or Critical) is calculated from the records. On the web, the foal's page has the same records, in Record evaluation and Colostrum / immunity / placenta.
Common problems
"Stillborn: no animal is registered." appeared. You turned off Foal was born alive. Turn it on again if the foal was born alive.
"Average gain: needs two weighings on different days." appeared. Record another weighing on a different day.
The foal doesn't appear in Animals. Sync the app. The foal appears in the list after the birth uploads to the server.
